Early Life and Career

Thomas Keller was born on October 14, 1955, in Camp Pendleton, California. His parents divorced when he was young, and his mother worked as a waitress to support him and his siblings. Keller’s love for cooking began when he was a child, watching his mother cook and experimenting with ingredients himself.

After dropping out of high school, Keller worked at a restaurant in Palm Beach, Florida, where he learned the basics of cooking. Ad Hoc

Ad Hoc is another of Keller’s more casual restaurants, located in Yountville. The restaurant offers a daily-changing four-course menu and is known for its comfort food, such as fried chicken and macaroni and cheese.

Keller opened Ad Hoc in 2006 as a temporary restaurant, but its popularity led him to make it a permanent fixture in Yountville. The restaurant’s name is a nod to its casual atmosphere and focus on simple, delicious food.
